Traffic lights installed as redevelopment works begin on closed Kenilworth street
Temporary traffic lights will be in place along Warwick Road in the centre of Kenilworth until the middle of January as works on Station Road get underway.
A scheme to make the pedestrianised end to the closed Station Road is now underway, with works set to see the pavement raised and a new surface laid on the closed section.
The redundant signs will also be removed, the planters replaced and proper traffic bollards installed.
Contractors are now on site to begin the redevelopment.
Two-way traffic lights have been installed on Warwick Road and will be in place until January 17, according to the Warwickshire County Council website.
Station Road first closed in 2020 as a temporary measure during the Covid-19 pandemic to allow better social distancing by preventing pedestrians crowding near the junction with Warwick Road.
Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) then requested the closure become permanent.
A consultation was launched through Warwickshire County Council and the closure was signed off in 2023.
KTC then used funding through the EU's 'Welcome Back' scheme to install the current 'beautiful benches' and planters along the road as a temporary solution to improve the aesthetics of the road.
