Local choir, Warwickshire Singers, is "honoured" that top composer Bob Chilcott is including Kenilworth in his busy international schedule with a workshop later this month.

Bob, described by The Observer as "a contemporary hero of British choral music", is much in demand for his workshop events, which this year span Europe and the USA.

So far, he has directed choirs in more than 30 different countries, and continues to inspire thousands of amateur singers.

Affable and approachable, Bob believes that music can unite people.

He aims to write accessible, unintimidating works that singers find enjoyable to learn, but that are not over-taxing.

He is interested in the process of getting singers to feel the words and the music and generate positive energy that produces a better sound and really brings the score alive.

Using tried and tested methods, he knows how to build a group dynamic from all who attend, no matter what their competence, allowing singers to make the most of their potential.

Warwickshire Singers says it wants to welcome as many singers as possible to this workshop, which is a "rare opportunity" to hear the ideas behind the music direct from the composer.

Bob's expertise and experience will "guarantee an informative day for all", and he has a reputation for injecting some humour too.

As he says, it's not a "test or anything, I just want people to have a good time singing together".

There has been a lot of interest (approaching sell-out), so pre-booking is essential online here. Tickets cost £20 to include score hire.

Refreshments will be available and bring your own lunch. 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday 27 January 2024 at Kenilworth Methodist Church, Priory Road, Kenilworth CV8 1LQ.
