A chain pub in Kenilworth's town centre has been given a second two-star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency.

The Green Man on Warwick Road was first given the low rating last April, with the pub saying it "immediately acted on feedback" to improve its rating.

However, at the end of 2023 the Ember Inn pub received yet another two-star write up.

Inspectors said improvement was necessary for the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the building.

However, 'hygienic food handling' was said to be very good, while 'management of food safety' was rated 'generally satisfactory'.

One of around 150 Ember Inn pubs across the country, the venue is managed by Mitchells and Butlers.

Following the poor inspection at the start of 2023, a spokesperson said: "We were disappointed to receive this rating as we are committed to operating at the highest standards.

"In response we have immediately acted on feedback from the report, principally around the required structural repairs and we welcome the chance for reinspection at the earliest opportunity."

The chain has not responded to Kenilworth Nub News' latest request for comment.

However, the company website says: "Our pubs are part of the Ember Inns family, so you'll find that they each share the same reliable quality of food, drink and service, but thanks to their local feel and warm touch, each individual pub delivers an experience with character."

Elsewhere in the town, five businesses have been given five-star ratings over the past few weeks.

A five-star review means the venue's hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law.

To get the top rating, businesses must do well in all three elements of an inspection.

This includes how hygienically the food is handled, the physical condition of the business and how the business manages ways of keeping food safe through training and processes.
