Kenilworth residents are being encouraged to get involved with celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III this May, by hosting their own street parties.

The King will be crowned, alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort, on Saturday, 6 May.

There will be events nationwide over the weekend of 6 to 8 May, and Kenilworth Town Council wants to make sure the town is not "left behind".

And while the council is unable to replicate the fantastic Warwick Road Jubilee Street Party from 2022, it is working closely with English Heritage to put together a plethora of events at Kenilworth Castle, which will be the focus of the town's celebrations across the three days.

The council said it is already seeing the enthusiastic involvement of many community groups and schools, and is "particularly excited" to share these plans as soon as they have been finalised.

"Rest assured all our timetabled events will be family friendly and free," the council said.

"We will be encouraging local businesses to get involved through our competitions taking place across the weekend with commemorative tokens available to all participants along with brilliant prizes.

"Not forgetting any residents who wish to organise their own street party events, please do make sure you are fully aware of all applications and permits required, full details of which can be found on our website below."

The deadline for applying for a permit is 26 March 2023.

"A street party is a wonderful way to get to know your neighbours better and celebrate the weekend close to home," the council added.

"There may even be a surprise or two from the town council and local organisers to help you make the most of your event."

For full details and the latest news visit the dedicated Coronation page on the KTC website.

The town council will also be creating dedicated coronation shopfronts within the town to kick start the decorations, and to keep all residents informed of the plans. Keep your eyes peeled on the window of the old Poundland store, as well as Shakespeare's Hospice in Abbey End.
