Waverley Day Centre in Kenilworth has launched a major fundraising appeal to secure a new accessible community minibus, ensuring older people can continue travelling safely to the much-loved day service that supports their health, wellbeing, and independence.

The charity, which has been supporting older adults in Kenilworth since the 1980s, needs a total of £60,000 to purchase a new vehicle, complete essential accessibility adaptations, and contribute to running costs.

The current minibus is 11 years old and will become increasingly costly to keep on the road. It is currently carrying out around 130 drop off and pickups every week.

Already Kenilworth Lions and three local county councillors - Richard Dickson, Mark Stevens and Tracey Drew - have pledged to support with 16 per cent of what is needed.

Holly Hewitt, Waverely's manager, said: "The support of our councillors and The Lions has set us off to the most fantastic start and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support."

Holly explained the importance of the appeal: "For many of our members, the minibus is the difference between isolation and living well.

"A new vehicle will ensure our clients Kenilworth can continue accessing the friendships, activities, and support that keep them healthy, happy, and independent.

"We must mention our brilliant team of volunteer drivers who make each journey possible and fun."

One member summed it up simply: "Without the minibus I would not be able to attend. It's the highlight of my week."

Another shared: "Coming to the centre has helped me make friends and feel less alone."

Last year alone, Waverley provided 6,500 transport journeys, with 93 per cent of service users reporting they felt less isolated and 96 per cent saying their wellbeing had improved through attending.

The new minibus will offer space for mobility aids, and safe, supported travel.

It will also continue to be available to PHAB Kenilworth and other local groups who rely on Waverley's transport to support people in the community.

Waverley's work aligns closely with Warwickshire's Living Well and Proud Places priorities, helping older residents stay connected, maintain independence, and enjoy meaningful social contact.

Staff and volunteers provide gentle support, help people in and out of their homes, and create days filled with laughter, stimulation, and companionship.

Local businesses and organisations will also have opportunities sponsor the vehicle and feature their branding on the minibus.

Staff will be doings some fundraising fo their own with a Cale and tabletops sale on 31st October on 31st and a 15 mile sponsored walk, 'Walking for Wheels '
