Helping empower people and give them back their confidence is the driver for a Kenilworth hair loss and wig consultant.

After a successful career in the West End, Katie Dear is reaching out to people in the wider Warwickshire area who may be struggling with hair loss.

Based at Kenilworth's Rumours Hair & Beauty on a monthly basis, Katie offers free 10-minute consultations to help get people started and to offer advice to help find each client's individual solution.

"With understanding comes empowerment, with empowerment brings confidence," Katie said.

"To feel like you have a choice in your hair and how it looks by wearing alternative hair or headwear, brings control back to you."

Katie worked backstage in London's West End for 13 years, working from wig assistant to head of wigs.

She started with training at The National Theatre before finishing over a decade later as head of wigs at The Dominion Theatre for 'We Will Rock You', then finally running the wigs team on Phantom of the Opera's 25th Anniversary at The Royal Albert Hall.

Katie then moved on to work in TV and film, before running a wedding hair and makeup business which worked around her family life.

Now she is helping people find their alternative hair, and with it a new-found confidence - with many patients having been through traumatic circumstances.

"I help clients find the right solution for their needs - whether that's a fibre wig, or a real hair wig," she added.

"These wigs can be life-changing, restoring both confidence and a sense of self.

"Hair loss can be emotional, and it should never be underestimated.

"I aim to offer the same compassionate, professional support to even more people, helping them feel like themselves again."

Katie will be based at Rumours Hair & Beauty on the third Sunday of every month.

This will be by appointment only, on a private one-to-one basis.

Katie also hosts a hair loss podcast where she interviews those going through a hair loss journey as well as specialists along the way.

This as well as a regular support group at Café Desa in Leamington Spa.

"It's not always easy to reach out for support initially but a small, relaxed and welcoming face to face support group might help take the first steps to share your journey and get ideas on what your next step should be," Katie explained.
