The promoter and compere of a Kenilworth comedy night is hoping Sunday's (August 31) near sell-out show is the start of bigger things to come.

Harry Jenkins hosted a mixed bill of top stand up comedians at the Talisman Theatre as the gig made the move to the venue's main stage for the first time.

After two sell-out shows in the foyer, Harry agreed to help the Talisman expand the show with more comics and in the main auditorium.

With all but a handful of seats sold, the event's new format has been hailed a "great success" and will be followed up by another comedy night on Saturday 29 November.

"After assuring the team that I'd be able to fill the main room if they gave me the opportunity, I was more pleased than anyone to see a completely full theatre to keep my pride intact," Harry told Nub News.

"The crowd were just lovely from the first minute and I think the night was a huge success.

"I really do hope this is the first of many evenings of comedy at the space!"

As well as compere Harry, the night featured Andy Fox, Mary Flowers and Mad Ron before headliner Ignacio Lopez - who has featured on Live at the Apollo, QI, and Have I Got News for You - closed the show.

And with rave reviews from the audience, Talisman Theatre member and director James Harris - who also helps oversee their monthly Fringe theatre nights at the Holiday Inn - said: "I couldn't be more thrilled with how our very first comedy night in the main auditorium went – the atmosphere was absolutely buzzing!

"I've always believed that laughter is the best tonic, and seeing a room full of people enjoying themselves was just fantastic.

"We're already looking forward to welcoming Harry back with his pals in November.

"Comedy is all about connection, and here at the Talisman we love giving both local and national talent a platform to try out their material and share that joy with our audiences – Ignacio even travelled all the way from Swansea to be with us!"
