An independent Kenilworth restaurant has lost its alcohol licence after suspected illegal workers were arrested at its premises.

Indian Edge on Warwick Road was raided by a Home Office immigration team in 2025 and four suspected illegal Bangaldeshi workers were arrested.

Today, the town centre eatery has been stripped of its permission to sell alcohol by Warwick District Council. The business remains open to customers.

A hearing of the licensing and regulatory committee found the business' licence holder had "demonstrated a flagrant disregard for the law" and "other legislative requirements".

The committee was also "concerned about the exploitation of vulnerable individuals".

The Home Office had called for a review of Indian Edge's licence and gave a representation to today's (November 5) committee meeting, confirming a major fine had already been imposed on the business.

A report following the hearing said: "The committee considered whether removing the designated premises supervisor would be sufficient to adequately promote the licensing objectives and concluded that it would not.

"The committee also reviewed the conditions proposed by the Licence Holder's legal representative and noted that they could not address the unlawful employment of staff with no right to work."

Indian Edge has the right to appeal the decision to magistrates' court.

Today's hearing was held behind closed doors, with the results shared on the council website after a decision was made.

The report continued: "The committee acknowledged that there had been no previous applications to review this premises licence nor had there been previous enforcement action by the licensing authority.

"The committee also acknowledged that the civil penalty is being paid by instalments and the current staff employed at the premises all appear to have the right to work.

"The committee noted the positive engagement by the licence holder with the Immigration Service.

"The committee also noted there had been no representations from any other responsible authority.

Last year, three Bangladeshi men were arrested at Indian Edge for working in breach and another Bangladeshi male was arrested for breach of bail.

All were bailed and a 'notice of liability' was issued to the Home Office civil penalty compliance team (CPCT). The case remains ongoing.
