Shock electric problem at Kenilworth Barn Museum
By Ormond Simpson 30th Mar 2026
The reopening of Kenilworth's Barn Museum looks set to be delayed due to an unexpected electricity problem.
Normally the Abbey Fields museum opens on Easter Sunday and Monday for the summer every year.
However, the opening looks likely to be pushed back as the museum is without power.
"We've no electricity," said Tony Shakespeare, chair of the Kenilworth Historical and Archaeology Society.
"The old electricity supply was very inadequate so a new cable has been put in as far as the Barn door.
"But there are legal issues to be fixed by Warwick District Council before it's finally connected."
The society said "fingers (and cables) are being crossed" in the hope the council will move quickly enough to get the barn open soon, so visitors can "enjoy the treasure trove of displays".
This year the barn will include a new display of a trebuchet ball from the siege of Kenilworth Castle - currently on loan from the Abbey Gatehouse, pending the arrival of one of the balls discovered by English Heritage last year.
