With the weather hopefully improving at last, Kenilworth Town Council is providing some practical encouragement to people who want to get back on their bikes.

This coming Saturday (May 29), alongside a number of activities in the town centre to support local businesses the town council, as part of its commitment to cycling is putting on some specific activities for people on bikes.

From 9.30am to 3pm there will be secure cycle parking at the Kenilworth Centre in Abbey End which will be staffed all day.

The Kenilworth Centre will also be the location for free bike safety checks courtesy of the Dr Bike scheme run by Warwickshire County Council.

These offer a quick 15 minute bike safety check and can be booked online here.

The local Safer Neighbourhoods Team from will be on site from 1pm to 3pm to provide free bike security marking.

And on top of that the first 100 people coming along on the day by bike will also get a £1 voucher to spend in participating local cafes – the Almanack, Ardens, Coffee on the Corner, Delightful Desserts are all taking part.

Chair of the town council's cycle group Cllr Andrew Milton said: "We'd love to see lots of people coming into town by bike next Saturday to support our great local businesses.

"The security marking proved really popular last time we ran it and I hope people will find the free safety checks helpful as well. If you've not had your bike out for a while it's a great idea to get it checked out before you go out too far."

He added: "As our town gets bigger we need to be able to tackle congestion and pollution. Travelling by bike is a great alternative option for short journeys and brings additional health benefits as well. We want to do everything we can to make it an easier choice for people"
