Work is set to begin on restoring the sails back onto one of Warwickshire's most famous and most-photographed monuments.

Warwickshire County Council's restoration project at Chesterton Windmill is entering its next stages with the new sails being lifted back into place.

Planning permission for the works were signed off by Stratford-on-Avon District Council last year, with work beginning on site at the start of March.

The windmill, which sits on a hilltop overlooking Chesterton village, has been there for nearly 400 years.

The sails were removed in 2021 over safety fears.

In a statement on the council's website, head of libraries, heritage & culture and registration services Ayub Khan added: "Chesterton Windmill is an iconic monument both in Warwickshire's landscape and as part of our country's history, and it has been an exciting day speaking with the project team to understand how the frames of the sails are coming together.

"It won't be long until the sails are back on the windmill and it's going to be a very exciting day to watch their installation."

The council has asked locals to watch "from a safe distance on the grass paths and to avoid entering the surrounding fields".
