Some major roads in Coventry will shut across next weekend as the hugely popular free event Motofest roars back to life after four years off.

Cars and bikes will be on display across the city on Saturday and Sunday 3-4 June, from exhibitions of classic cars to adrenaline-fuelled motorsport.

This year's concorse at the cathedral ruins will celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth II – with vehicles dating back to the 1950s set to go on display.

A sprint circuit around part of the ring-road will be back – along with races around its pillars at Gosford Street and a new drift arena in a car park.

Non-petrol heads can head to Cycle-fest on Saturday for mountain bike shows and a chance to pedal round the ring-road circuit in the evening.

But the event does come with some major road closures – see the list below to make sure you don't get caught out.

Almost all of the below closures will be in place from 8pm on Friday 2 June to midnight on Sunday 4 June.

However, a small part of Warwick Road will shut earlier, from the evening of Thursday 1 June. This is from the A429 northbound junction with the ringroad (heading west) to the roundabout at Greyfriars Green.

Main roads closing from Friday evening to Sunday are:

  • Ring Road clockwise J4 – 7 (main carriageway: London Road to Butts Rd/Croft Rd)
  • Ring Road anticlockwise J7 – 4 (main carriageway: Butts Rd/Croft Rd to London Road)
  • All Ring Road entry / exit slip roads, Ring Road J5 (Mile Lane / Little Park Street)
  • All Ring Road entry / exit slip roads, Ring Road J6 (Friargate / Warwick Road/Manor House Drive) but access to / from train station and Central 6 from and Warwick Road (inbound) will be maintained.
  • Warwick Road, both directions from Eaton Road/Central 6 junction to the junction of New Union Street and Greyfriars Lane (The Wave). Access to Greyfriars Lane & Barracks Car Park will be maintained from Police Station side of New Union Street.

Other roads will be closing or have reduced access during this time, including:

  • Short Street (J4), in its entirety, access for residents only from Parkside
  • Hales Street in front of Old Fire Station (Millennium Place)
  • Manor Road no access to Ring Road.
  • Contra-flow for traffic heading inbound on London Road, which will be unable to join Ring Road clockwise at J4; Instead it will be fed via the contra-flow onto the anticlockwise carriageway.

There will also be traffic management measures in Earlsdon to reduce the impact on local residents, the Motofest website states.

Air quality works at junction seven of the ring-road (Butts Road / Croft Road & SkyDome) are still going, so local diversions may still be in place.

Over the weekend all public transport serving New Union St, Greyfriars Road and Warwick Road will be diverted, the website adds.

The event's website says: "We work hard to keep Coventry moving during MotoFest. However, certain road closures are neccessary to keep the festival safe for everybody."

More information on the event and FAQs are available here.
