A three-month project to lay new power cables around residential roads in Kenilworth is set to start in the middle of March.

National Grid says the work will improve the surrounding cable network and will provide the power needed for new houses on Glasshouse Lane.

The project will see two new cables laid from the former Kenilworth School site on Leyes Lane, to the Scott Road substation.

The route will take the cable down a number of streets including Leyes Lane, Elmdene Road, Arden Road, Birches Lane, Roseland Road and Oaks Road.

Works will start on 18 March and are expected to last until June 28.

"Balfour Beatty on behalf of National Grid Electricity Distribution are to excavate and lay two new 11kV electricity cables from the old school site to the electricity substation off Scott Road," a public notice said.

"This work is to improve the 11kV cable network and provide the required power for the new Glasshouse Lane development."

Contractor Balfour Beatty said some road and footpath closures will be needed around Arden Road, Whites Row and St John's Street.

Traffic lights will also be in place along Leyes Lane, Windy Arbour and Whitemore Road at various points of the project.

More details of road closures will be listed on the Warwickshire County Council website.
