A safety warning has been issued to locals by police as demolition works at the former Kenilworth School site begin.

Warwickshire Police has issued a reminder to residents, parents and young people about the dangers of entering the site on Leyes Lane.

Taking to Facebook, Warwickshire Police shared: We are aware of growing interest in "urban exploring" and the temptation to enter abandoned or partially demolished buildings.

"However, these sites present serious risks and should never be entered without authorisation."

Locals have also been warned that the former school site is currently an active demolition area and may contain hazardous materials, including asbestos.

Exposure to asbestos fibres can pose significant health risks if disturbed, and these fibres are often invisible to the naked eye.

In addition, it has been warned that demolition sites can contain:

• Unstable structures and collapsing floors
• Hidden holes, exposed foundations and open excavations
• Falling debris and sharp materials
• Hazardous substances and dust
• Moving plant machinery and construction vehicles

Warwickshire Police added: "We would ask parents and guardians to speak with their children about the risks associated with urban exploring, particularly at demolition and construction sites.
