Review: The Hatton Arms' Christmas Fayre menu
The Hatton Arms' Christmas Fayre menu offers diners simple but delicious seasonal classics at a reasonable price.
With an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients, the Christmas menu presents authentic dining without any of the pretension.
The Hatton pub, which was refurbished last year, was a comfortable and relaxing setting for a much-enjoyed evening.
Starters included a pheasant and chestnut terrine, spiced carrot and coriander soup and a crab and prawn cocktail.
However, we chose to sample the smoked salmon and dill pate and mini melting camembert. Generous portions of each were received very well, and were the perfect start to a festive evening.
Mains include apricot-stuffed roast pork loin, salmon supreme with roasted root vegetables and chestnut, parsnip and cranberry Loaf.
The breaded turkey escalope, again generously portioned, was cooked to perfection and slipped down almost as easily as the pint of Old Hooky I was treated to.
Portions of seasonal vegetables were shared between us, and even a scarcely-touched brussels sprout was consumed!
Whilst we opted for the carnivorous options for our mains, vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free diners are also catered for.
Perhaps the only drawback of the evening was being forced into choosing between the many tempting desert options.
The chocolate brownie and the mulled wine winter berries pavlova were both ordered and both thoroughly enjoyed.
The mulled wine winter berries were particularly well received and helped to round off an early Christmas celebration nicely. Perhaps a new seasonal favourite?
Traditional Christmas pudding, cheese and crackers and a selection of ice creams were also on offer.
Crafted by head chef Jakub Fijak, the Christmas Fayre menu certainly did not disappoint, and the feedback from other diners around us was certainly positive.
As mentioned, local ingredients are used throughout the menu, including meat from Rowleys Butchers in Leamington and Warwick; poultry from Adlingtons near Coventry; beef from Oxfordshire; vegetables from Alcester; eggs from Chadwick End and bread from Henley.
And whilst I stuck to the pub's selection of real ale, it was also serving mulled wine and festive cocktails.
The menu, the service and the setting certainly justified the price of £28.95 for three courses.
Available Monday to Saturday from November 22 until December 24, the Christmas Fayre menu can also be served alongside the pub's autumn menu - ideal for large parties that don't all want to eat the same things.
But it must be noted that all diners who wish to eat from the Christmas Fayre menu must preorder to make sure they are not disappointed.
So with Christmas (hopefully) being back to normal for 2021 why not treat yourself to a delightful evening out at The Hatton Arms?
