Residents' views wanted on future of Kenilworth skate park

Kenilworth Town Council is asking users of Castle Farm skate park to help shape its future.

The Town Survey, held last year, identified facilities for young people as one of the priorities for residents for how the town council should invest the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) received as a result of the new developments in the town.

And the skatepark - a popular spot with people of many ages, particularly younger people in the town - is now a priority for KTC.

"We've been keen to do something with the skatepark for some time now but funding has always been a barrier," said Cllr Andrew Milton.

"The funding we receive from CIL means that we can overcome that barrier and this seems like a great opportunity to invest in something that's in line with how people think we should use the money.

"What we really want now is for current users, and future users to help us shape what that development should look like."

Users of the skatepark and anyone interested in its future development are being invited to a meeting on Sunday 20 February at the Kenilworth Centre from 3-5pm.

Sam Metcalfe, a youth leader at the Kenilworth Centre who has helped set up the meeting. said: "We're in touch with lots of young people in the town and it's great that there's some potential to invest in improving facilities for them.

"We want as many of them to get involved and help shape what's needed. It'll be great to have their ideas but also it's a chance for them to get involved in a community project and help make something happen."

Following the meeting a plan will be put together and then a funding submission will go to the town council for approval.

"There's still a long way to go but it's great that we can make a start and important that we can get as many people involved as possible," added Cllr Milton.
