Residents' views sought on more double yellow lines and cycleways in Leamington for K2L cycleway
Residents have until the end of July to have their say on a number of roadworks in the centre of Leamington Spa.
The works, which form part of the first section of the K2L cycleway, include a new speed bump, parking restrictions and more shared cycleways and footpaths.
Last autumn Warwickshire County Council (WCC) held a public consultation on the first part of the 5km cycle route, asking locals to share their views on new cycleways along Kenilworth Road in Leamington.
Construction of the first part of the route began in January, but now more designs have been released for residents to share their views on.
The notice on the WCC website says: "These sections are in addition to those sections advertised in Autumn 2022 as part of the original proposals for the cycle route along the eastern side of the A452 Kenilworth Road in Leamington Spa.
"During local engagement, there were a number of requests for greater priority for pedestrians and cyclists at side roads and better access to the cycle route from the western side of Kenilworth Road.
"This has led to modifications of the design of the original scheme.
Locals can now share their views on:
- A priority crossing for pedestrians and cyclists on Cloister Crofts
- Shared tracks on Woodcote Road
- Shared tracks on Northumberland Road
If approved, the crossing on Cloister Crofts would see a new speed hump installed.
WCC is also asking for residents' views on introducing double yellow lines on Northumberland Road, Woodcote Road, Binswood Avenue, Kenilworth Road and Clarendon Avenue.
A current pay and display zone on Clarendon Avenue could also be scrapped if the project goes ahead.
Any objections should be addressed to Alison Kennedy, Communities Directorate, Shire Hall post room, Rear of Shire Hall, Northgate Street, Warwick, CV34 4RL, or sent by email to [email protected] using the subject "K2L - Section 1a".
Objections should be received by 21 July 2023. See the full designs here.
WCC recently announced it had secured £961,000 in funding for sections 1a (Leamington Town Centre to edge of town) and 1b (edge to town to Blackdown) of the K2L route.
With the budget approved in 2020, the 5km cycleway was given the green light fully by councillors in January 2021, but the council is yet to finish most of the design.
The project - which could take another four years to complete - will also see a new pedestrian and cycle bridge built over the River Avon near Chesford Grange.
