Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon District Councils say the draft economic strategy has three themes - people, productivity and place

Kenilworth residents have until the end of March to have their say on a major policy document that will shape the economic strategy for South Warwickshire for the next 30 years.

Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon District Councils have launched a public consultation on the draft policy which aims to create a "stronger, greener economy" within five years and to align with the new local plan which will run until 2050.

The councils say there are three themes to the strategy - people, productivity and place - and five key opportunity areas – automotive; electric vehicle (EV) batteries; hydrogen; bioscience and agri-tech; and digital creative.

The authorities say these will not only drive economic growth but help to deliver on "ambitious" climate change targets.

The draft also recognises that the area has a strong tourism and hospitality sector and has "outstanding attractions" with the local castles and Shakespeare's Birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon making strong contributions to the local economy.

Cllr Liam Bartlett, economy and culture portfolio holder for WDC said: "Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon districts share many common economic opportunities and challenges.

"This joint economic strategy provides a framework for the two councils to work both separately and together to tackle these.

"Taken as a whole, the strategy will strengthen the area's position when applying for funding or seeking to attract public and private sector investment across South Warwickshire. We welcome the views of residents and stakeholders as part of this consultation on our draft strategy."

The consultation runs to 31 March and comments can be made after Friday 17 February on the council website here.
