Public meeting called on future of former Kenilworth School site
By James Smith 26th Jan 2026
Local residents have been invited to a public meeting this week to find out more about the future of the former Kenilworth School site on Leyes Lane.
Prior approval for the site to be demolished has already been approved, meanwhile a planning application for the land to be turned into 224 new homes awaits a decision by Warwick District Council.
With the sites having sat dormant since the school moved to Glasshouse Lane in 2023, residents have been kept waiting to find out how they will be used.
Two public meetings will be held on Thursday 29 January to give locals more information.
They will be held at 1pm and 8pm at The Wardens Cricket Club Glasshouse Lane CV8 2AL.
Locals will be able to hear from Cllr Jessica Melrose - cabinet member for housing at WDC.
Residents are asked to arrive promptly for the meetings.
In October, the district council confirmed the former school sites - which it owns - could be sold, but only with a development plan in place.
The local authority wants the land at Rouncil Lane and Leyes Lane to be turned into "high-quality, affordable, and environmentally sustainable homes".
Homes England has since held a public consultation on the plans for Leyes Lane.
Its application for houses would see 40 per cent of the homes designated as affordable.
The scheme also includes an 'extra care' facility with 75 bedrooms for the elderly.
No plans for Rouncil Lane have yet been revealed.
