No end date for year-long A46 roadworks following crash on bridge
By James Smith 26th Jan 2026
Warwickshire motorists are no closer to finding out when the average speed limit and closed lane around an A46 bridge will be removed.
Roadworks have continued around the Leek Wootton junction of the dual carriageway since a crash in December 2024.
One lane of the southbound carriageway has been shut since, while the speed limit has been reduced to 60mph for the narrower lanes now in place across the bridge.
Multiple overnight closures have been held over the last year as National Highways looks to fix the bridge.
However, there is currently no end date to the works as a long-term fix is yet to be finished.
A National Highways spokesperson told Nub News: "One lane of the A46 was closed following an incident which caused damage to the bridge and safety barrier.
"We've since carried out some initial repairs and are going through the design and approval process for further specialist repairs which will take place in due course.
"In the interim, we are reviewing the current closure to consider when it would be safe to reopen the road fully."
One local motorist told Nub News the works create "major disruption" particularly during rush hours.
"To me, it does not seem that National Highways have given this matter sufficient priority, has not understood the issue and it has no monitoring of the problems created by its delay," they said.
