A village pub has finally reopened following a "never-ending nightmare" of floods.

The Royal Oak in Brandon was hit by its 11th flood in February this year, having had to deal with the impacts of extremely heavy rain already in 2024.

Owner Khara Schrijvers was forced to close the pub in December for repairs, but has been hit by continued setbacks.

Since then the Station Road inn has installed a number of flood defences and finally welcomed guests again on Saturday 20 April.

"Words can't describe how difficult this whole process has been - in between all the flooding, damage repairs and preventative works, we've had everything from damaged roofs, burst water pipes, a gas leak, disturbed asbestos, cracked floors and so much more," the pub said in a post on social media.

"To say it's been a tough few months, would be an understatement (as they say when it rains, it pours!)

"There were times it felt like we were never going to get out the other end, but we couldn't have done any of it without all the support, kindness and generosity we have received from all our amazing customers and the local community."

The Royal Oak has also told customers there are "some exciting things in the pipeline".

The reopening of the pub has been met with a flood of positive messages on social media.
