Nearly 4,000 Warwickshire drivers were caught speeding during a two-week police anti-speeding operation this month.

In the two weeks from 26 July speed cameras clocked a total of 3,746 speeding offences on Warwickshire's roads, 80 per cent of which were men aged over 25.

A total of 24 drivers are now being prosecuted at court due to driving at excessive speed, including a woman stopped for reaching 105mph on the M6.

Over 50 drivers were stopped for speeding offences in 30 mph residential zones.

Chief Inspector Faz Chishty said "speeding is a choice" and that all motorists have a duty to both themselves and other people when it comes to speed.

"Driving safely within speed limits helps to keep all road users safe and to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads," he said.

"During the summer holidays there are more children, cyclists, walkers and pedestrians on our roads, making it even more important for drivers to think of others and drive at an appropriate speed according to the conditions, within the maximum speed limit."
