Chain pub in Kenilworth given two-star hygiene rating
A chain pub in Kenilworth's town centre has been given a two-star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency.
The Green Man on Warwick Road has received the low rating following an inspection in January.
The inspector's report - published in April - found improvements were needed on the eatery's cleanliness and the condition of facilities and the building.
Meanwhile the handling of food and the management of food safety were found to be 'generally satisfactory'.
The Ember Inn pub is managed by Mitchells and Butlers, and has said changes have already been made following the inspection.
A spokesperson for the Green Man said: "We were disappointed to receive this rating as we are committed to operating at the highest standards.
"In response we have immediately acted on feedback from the report, principally around the required structural repairs and we welcome the chance for reinspection at the earliest opportunity."
Last year the Green Man was given planning permission to renovate its 'neglected' front terrace.
There are around 150 Ember Inn pubs across the country.
The website says: "Our pubs are part of the Ember Inns family, so you'll find that they each share the same reliable quality of food, drink and service, but thanks to their local feel and warm touch, each individual pub delivers an experience with character."
Elsewhere in the town five businesses were given five-star ratings over the past few weeks.
A five-star review means the venue's hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law.
To get the top rating, businesses must do well in all three elements of an inspection.
This includes how hygienically the food is handled, the physical condition of the business and how the business manages ways of keeping food safe through training and processes.
