Plans for a glamping site next to Resorts World have moved a step further.

The NEC Group was given permission to build a new glamping site on its Solihull campus earlier this year.

The ambitious plans are for 59 pods housing 236 guests on land close to Pendigo Lake, opposite the Resorts World complex.

The plans also include the building of a reception modular building with multi-functional spaces, offices, storage and plant room; a drop-off parking area, service yard and vehicular access; communal areas and "enhancement of woodland and woodland glade".

Guests would be able to use a new app for keyless entry and there'll be a free golf buggy to get around the resort.

CGI images used in the original application also featured a spa, sauna, steam room and hot tub.

The NEC group originally submitted plans to Solihull Council in June 2023. Permission was granted in February.

AvantGlamp helps set up places for fancy camping and is working with the NEC Group on this project.

Now the NEC group has returned to the authority to ask for preparatory conditions – which featured in the planning permission agreement from last year – to be signed off.

An application to formally 'discharge' conditions 5 (cycle parking), 6 (CMP), 10 (LEMP), 11 (external lighting) and 12 (materials), has been submitted to the authority.

Councils often sign off conditions within a recommended 28-day timescale of the application submission date which in this case was August 20.

Work is yet to start on the glamping site, the applicants having previously said the target completion date would be the end of 2024.

The National Exhibition Centre and Resorts World Arena are based at the resort.

Both are run by the NEC Group, as well as the Resorts World shopping and leisure complex, Bear Grylls Adventure attraction and several hotels.

This latest development is part of a bigger plan called the NEC Masterplan, which aims to change how the campus is used.

It was first revealed in 2018 with Birmingham City Council and could create 10,000 jobs.
