A developer has unveiled plans for hundreds of homes on green belt land in a local village.

Richborough wants to build 300 homes at Golden End Farm – land north of Kenilworth Road on the edge of Knowle.

The developer is highlighting that in 2019 the site was included as an 'amber' site for housing in Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's draft local plan supplementary consultation.

This meant it was in a "highly accessible location near to local services" and had the potential to be a location for homes.

The developer is also proposing plans for a community park, a new sports pitch and a foot and cycle path along the Grand Union Canal.

And it is proposed a small car park off Kixley Lane would help reduce congestion around Knowle Primary Academy at busy times.

Richborough is yet to submit a planning application to the authority but to get feedback a consultation has launched on the developer's website, richborough-knowle.co.uk.

A Richborough spokesperson said: "We're delighted to share our emerging plans for land off Kenilworth Road.

"This development represents a real opportunity to meet local housing needs in a way that respects the character of Knowle and delivers lasting benefits for the community.

"We want these plans to reflect local priorities, so we're inviting residents to tell us what matters most to them, whether that's the types of homes, investment in transport, or the design of new public spaces.

"The feedback we receive will help shape the plans before we submit our application."

Building homes on the grey belt has been a hot topic in Solihull as the government has a commitment to build 1.5 million homes nationally during this parliament, with the borough given a target of 8,500.

The council made national headlines last year as it moved to combine Knowle, Dorridge and Bentley Heath as a single settlement.

This move was done so the green belt has a purpose of stopping the three villages from merging – as they will be treated as a town in planning terms – helping to protect the green belt.
