Over 70 Warwickshire and West Midlands firefighters and 10 engines have been called to a warehouse fire in Coventry since the building caught fire at 5pm yesterday.

Crews were called to the Ram Enterprise building on Prologis Park, Central Blvd, Coventry to deal with a fire so big that smoke could be seen for miles around.

The premises, which had been evacuated before crews arrived, has now been completely destroyed by the fire and crews will remain on site for the next few days.

When crews arrived the fire was already spreading to a neighbouring building, but fire crews were able to contain the fire and save neighbouring properties.

A local lake was used to support the flow of water to firefighters.

Local residents were encouraged to close their windows due to the smoke, and Coventry Police and officers from the Environment Agency were also called to the scene.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Services area manager, Paul Morley said: "Unfortunately, the building was well alight on arrival, but crews acted quickly to contain the fire and stop it spreading to a neighbouring business.

"There was a large smoke plume due to the severity of the fire and residents living in the local area were advised to close windows and doors. Our crews will remain on site throughout the evening to ensure the area remains safe.

"The whole building has been completely destroyed by fire and crews will remain on site for some time."
