Nearly 3,000 fly-tipping incidents were reported in Warwick district between April 2024 and March this year, new council data has revealed.

A Warwick District Council report shows the amount of fly-tipping in the area has fallen over the past few months.

The report also shows just 18 fixed penalty notices - fines of up to £1,000 for fly-tipping and inappropriate storage of bins - have been issued since January 2024.

Just nine community protection notice fines have been issued to residents allowing waste to build up in front gardens or in front of their homes in the same time period.

The report explained: "The council's waste enforcement team spend a high proportion of their working week out and around the district, talking to residential and commercial properties that are presenting waste incorrectly or permanently storing wheeled bins on the pavement. 

"Properties that store wheeled bins permanently on the highways will have these bins tagged to notify the household that the bin will be removed if it continues to be stored on the highway."

The same report says new mobile ANPR cameras were launched in May 2025 and have already caught fly-tippers in action on "several occasions".

It also states the council currently has a £30,000 budget for legal support, publicity, training and bin removals but hopes this will grow in the future to support the Rapid Response Unit (RRU).

"Additional budget will be requested in the budget growth bid for 2026/27 of £130k to continue to fund the additional RRU team dedicated to clearing fly-tipping promptly and looking for evidence for a further twelve months," the report continued. 

"An additional benefit of having this RRU is that it has enabled the permanent contracted RRU workload to be completed more efficiently. 

"This includes tasks such as the removal of brambles from walkways, cleaning off graffiti on council buildings and other ad-hoc work requests."
