The councillor in charge of Warwickshire's roads has signed off on the next steps for major changes to Crewe Lane.

Warwickshire County Council has officially given the green light to plans to reduce the speed limit to 30mph and effectively cut the road in half.

The move will see a 99-metre break created in the road outside Kenilworth Golf Club's entrance as a 'prohibition of motor vehicles' section is created.

Just over £600,000 has also been ringfenced to pay for the works, with the money coming from local housing developers.

The break in Crewe Lane will not be created until Dalehouse Lane completely reopens from HS2 works and the new roundabout is built at the entrance to Stansfield Grove on Glasshouse Lane.

The local authority has until 10 December 2027 to start the works.

A decision on Crewe Lane was twice pushed down the road before portfolio holder for transport and planning Cllr Stephen Shaw signed off on them last month.

"The rural nature of Crewe Lane, its narrow width and lack of footways, make it unsuited to cope with the additional demands on the road network from the planned growth in housing and employment in and around Kenilworth," a council report said.

Cllr Shaw visited the road on Monday 15 June before making his decision.

A public consultation was also held before the changes were recommended.
