Fourteen-month closure of Kenilworth road for HS2 works officially begins
By James Smith 7th Apr 2026
The "madness" of a 14-month road closure for HS2 works in Kenilworth has begun today (April 7).
Dalehouse Lane has closed until June 2027 so the new bridge - which will carry the road over the railway line - can be finished and connected.
The closure is the latest in a series of HS2 works, but will be the longest of any local road closure by quite a margin.
Announced earlier this year, the works were met with frustration by locals who said the A429 from Coventry must not be shut at any point over the next year.
"Really can't believe there is any real justification for such a long closure as the vast majority of the new bridge is off-line from the existing road," one reader said.
"Just an entitled attitude by HS2 because they can.
"Not the slightest consideration for users of Dalehouse Lane."
Another reader agreed saying: "I don't understand why it couldn't be built like the ones on Stoneleigh road or Coventry Road and closed short term to 'connect' it up."
HS2 has confirmed Dalehouse Lane will close from Tuesday 7 April 2026 until Monday 7 June 2027.
A diversion will be in place throughout the closures.
