Fresh plans to install a 5G mast in Kenilworth have been submitted to Warwick District Council.

Cornerstone's application says the company needs to relocate its existing mast from Kenilworth Wardens sports club on Glasshouse Lane as it can no longer be accommodated.

The application - for a 25-metre high mast - says multiple locations were considered before selecting the verge on Leamington Road, close to the Thickthorn Roundabout.

"Cornerstone is limited in siting options as there is a requirement to provide equivalent replacement coverage and capacity for this area of Kenilworth," the plans said.

"The replacement of an existing site means that the operator has to be located as close as possible to the existing installation in order to fit in with the surrounding network and to maintain the provision of equivalent coverage and capacity to the surrounding local area.

"The proposed site is located at the back of the footpath in the grass verge at the junction of Leamington Road (A452) and the Kenilworth Bypass (A46)."

Previous applications for 5G masts in the town have recently been rejected, with CK Hutchinson Networks refused permission for a mast near Kenilworth Cemetery and another application on St John's Street also thrown out.

Cornerstone said it is "vital that the connectivity provided by the existing site is replaced" to provide "continued reliable mobile digital connectivity to the area".
