Council planners have given the green light for a new "multipurpose all-weather facility" at Burton Green Village Hall.

Warwick District Council has granted planning permission for a range of works at the Red Lane facility.

The scheme was put forward following a public consultation, which asked locals whether they wanted a pétanque facility as well as a multi-purpose outdoor space.

"The current project for which we are now seeking permission will deliver a fenced area, screened by planting, with a covered seating area to provide shade and shelter, and to reduce any ambient noise," the application said.

"The shelter would include lockable equipment storage, an open area of seating for spectators, and a serving hatch for refreshments.

"The multipurpose hardstanding area would enable the establishment of a pétanque club, as well as other village and group activities such as pop-up badminton, volleyball, event marquee, etc.

"The space would be usable all year round."

Recommending the application be approved, a council report said: "The proposed structures are small in scale and are to be constructed of timber materials.

"The site lies in close proximity to the town hall and would be read in conjunction with this existing built form.

"The development would be subservient to the scale of the town hall and would be observed as an addition to the existing community functions.

"It would be considered that the provision of the multi-purpose hardstanding area is a characteristic of larger community centre functions and that the scale is commensurate to the site and the proposed use."

The new village hall was opened at Burton Green in 2023, having been funded by HS2.

The old hall was demolished to make way for the new rail line.
