A new Kenilworth junction is an "accident waiting to happen" according to a Kenilworth councillor.

The new road layout around Thickthorn Gardens on Glasshouse Lane has now been put in place, following months of works in the area.

The new junction includes a pedestrian crossing as well as a tighter bend on the busy road.

Speaking at last week's full Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Richard Dickson raised concerns.

"Lots of local residents have been contacting councillors on is the removal of the traffic lights on Glasshouse Lane by the Thickthorn Gardens development and the creation of what could be a seriously dangerous junction there," he explained.

"Requiring - if you are coming in an easterly direction - a sharp left-hand turn, if you are turning in a westerly direction, a sharp right-hand turn.

"It is quite difficult not to cross into the other side of the road.

"The county council have agreed to put markers on the road to tell drivers to slow down.

"But the ultimate plan is the main route will be through the spine road onto the Leamington Road - that is unlikely to be completed in 2026, much more likely to be completed at some point in 2027

Thickthorn Gardens is one of a number of major housing estates being built in Kenilworth, it forms part of the 550 homes being built on land between Leamington Road and Glasshouse Lane.

Bottom line is this junction is dangerous. Vehicles are taking the bend on the wrong side of the road. Lorries are mounting the kerb and wrecking the verges. The crossing beacon was hit on the second day it was opened and demolishef. The road markings, give ways, proxinity of the toocan crossing are confusing. The exit from Heyville Croft onto Glasshouse lane are a nightmare. We ard taking bets how long it will be before a vehicle crashes into the showhome right on the bend. This junction has not bern thoight through, it is just a matter of time before there is a serious incident. Who do we then hold responsible then?

It was originally supposed to be a roundabout, guess that was too much work.
You've only got to look at the corner coming down from Birches Lane the lorries are already cutting it and it won't belong until the kerb collapses.
And what exactly is that tarmac apron about? What a waste, it's useless as a cycle path as it go nowhere.

Who signs off on these designs? The development further up next to Ken school could do with an extended pavement, given the number of children having to walk to school on the grass verges/run across the road from the development and at the top of the hill on knowle hill. I don't understand how this estate got something so quickly.
