Dogs Trust Kenilworth is celebrating the rehoming of Moose, a "big, lovable Crossbreed" who spent more than 1,250 days with the charity before finding a new home in time for Christmas.

When Moose arrived with the charity in October 2021, the Dogs Trust team was hopeful he would be rehomed quickly. His journey turned out to be far longer than expected.

Growing up in lockdown meant Moose missed out on the "vital social experiences" that help young dogs grow in confidence, leaving him anxious and struggling.

With several adoption attempts falling through, the Dogs Trust Kenilworth team took action, creating a bespoke training plan to help Moose build confidence and learn the life skills needed to thrive in a forever home.

Then Moose met Matthew and Alina, experienced dog owners who were open to a dog needing a new home.

They fell in love instantly, but on the advice of the Dogs Trust team, waited for Moose to complete more training before starting the process of building a relationship.

Two months later, the process began and over almost five months of visits, their bond grew stronger, and Moose finally went to his new home.

Now Moose the Crossbreed, who had to wait 1,256 days, is getting ready to spend Christmas in his happy place, his forever home with Matthew and Alina.

Speaking about the adoption, Matthew said: "We felt drawn to Moose right away. He was the big dog we wanted, and although he did have some behavioural issues, he was super playful, loved his treats, and any attention he could get!

"After a couple of meetings, we felt that given enough time, he could blossom into a confident dog, and his playful personality could come out. In the time he has been with us, Moose is already a completely different dog from when we first brought him home. We know he's on the right path to being the most confident boy he can be."

Emma-Jane Thomas, Manager at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, said: "After more than 1,250 days with us, Moose's story isn't one we're likely to forget!

"During his time with us, our team worked hard to help this gentle giant feel confident in new environments and around new people, catching up on the life experience he missed out on at the start of his life.

"Moose's rehoming story is an excellent example of how the right care and training, in the right place, can help a dog find its forever home, regardless of their background.

"Every dog deserves to be in their happy place, especially at Christmas, and we have so many big dogs, just like Moose, who are still looking for their forever homes. If you're ready to welcome a dog into your life, please visit our website or visit us in person!"
