Work is set to begin on converting a Kenilworth footbridge for joint cycling and pedestrian use at the end of March, a council report has revealed.

At the latest Kenilworth Town Council meeting an update from the cycling working group said the Clarke's Avenue Footbridge scheme would get underway in the week beginning March 20.

Warwickshire County Council was set to start the project at the end of November, but it was delayed by four months.

The town council approved a £27,500 budget for the project in February - with its county colleagues also set to provide funding.

The scheme - which was subject to a public consultation last year - will eventually see kerbs dropped, barriers removed and the path widened and resurfaced and new markings added to allow cyclists to use it.

The project is part of a wider plan to allow for safe cycling across Kenilworth.

Cllr Andrew Milton also told town councillors last week that a letter has been sent to the county council asking for more information on the delayed K2L project and urging the authority to move as quickly as possible to get the project underway.

The letter was signed by Kenilworth Town Council, Royal Leamington Spa Town Council, Warwick District Council, Warwick University, Clean Air Warwickshire and Cycleways.
