MP to organise meeting about smelly drains before more homes are built on former Kenilworth sixth form site
Action to remedy a 20-year-old issue around smelly drains on a residential street in Kenilworth is currently being taken - town councillors have heard.
Speaking at the most recent Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) meeting, Cllr Richard Dickson updated members on the ongoing problems along Rouncil Lane.
The former mayor said residents on the road have complained over several years about odour from the nearby drains, and said local MP Sir Jeremy Wright is now working on a solution.
"Some members may be aware of the ongoing problem of odour in the drains on Rouncil Lane," Cllr Dickson said.
"A meeting has been held with the MP who is now trying to convene a round table meeting with the Environment Agency, environmental health team and with Severn Trent with a view to reviewing what is happening there.
"There are repeated complaints from residents about the bad smells.
"This is not a new issue, it has been going on probably for the best part of 20 years.
"It seems there is an ongoing problem with bad smells in the drains."
The Liberal Democrat councillor said it was important the issue be sorted as soon as possible, given that works to turn the former sixth form site on Rouncil Lane into houses could begin over the coming months.
He said he hoped to have an update for KTC's November meeting.
"But there is some action happening and hopefully by the time of the next town council meeting, that meeting with stakeholders will have taken place," he added.
"It is particularly relevant because we don't want more houses built on the sixth form site that could compound the problem."
