A 62-year-old woman who was left "critically injured" after a fatal crash in South Warwickshire has died.

The driver of a black Audi - a 19-year-old man - died at the scene following the crash on Monday (24 August) which came after a police chase.

Police tried to stop the car on Birmingham Road, Stratford, before chasing it along the A46 and then along the A439 Warwick Road where the Audi crashed into another vehicle - a white Ford Puma.

An investigation into the incident has been triggered with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

In a statement to the BBC, the IOPC confirmed the woman has died.

It said: "We can confirm that a woman who was critically injured in a road traffic incident in Warwick Road, Stratford-upon-Avon on Monday (24 August) has, sadly, died.

"The 62-year-old woman's Ford Puma was in collision with a black Audi A3 car which had been pursued by officers from Warwickshire Police.

"The Audi driver died at the scene.

"Our thoughts are with the friends and families of both those who have died and both families have requested privacy at this difficult time."

A number of other vehicles were damaged during the pursuit.

Two ambulances, three paramedic officers, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance attended the scene.

The A429 was shut from the Marraway roundabout to the junction with Ingon Lane and at Sand Barn Lane for a long period of time last night while investigations were underway.
