More archaeological investigations will take place at Abbey Fields Leisure Centre this week as the council prepares to knock down and rebuild the facility.

Warwick District Council announced at the end of August that the remains of a medieval wall had been unearthed at the site.

The discovery, thought to be part of a water mill, caused further delays to the signing of contracts for the swimming pool redevelopment.

However, WDC has now signed contracts with AR Demolition and Kier to progress with the project.

And the council announced yesterday (September 26) that there would be more investigations on site this week.

A council spokesperson said: "Following the discovery of the medieval wall in Abbey Fields, additional archaeological work will start this week.

"This will involve some further investigation of the wall itself, some work on the brook bank and some initial investigations in the area adjacent to the zip wire."

The council has also cut down a number of trees to create a new path around the rear of the old swimming pool building.
