Monthly round up: All the headlines and stories from Kenilworth this September

Here is a round up of the biggest stories from the news in Kenilworth this September.

Planning has dominated the headlines in Kenilworth this month, with applications approved by Warwick District Council for a new leisure centre at Abbey Fields and sports centre at Castle Farm.

An application for 550 new houses to be built on the 'land east of Kenilworth' has also been approved. This followed the announcement that WDC will spend a collective £60 million on housing around the Woodside Hotel.

Construction works have also continued on the A46 Stoneleigh Island meaning the lanes around the junction have been narrowed with a 50mph speed limit also in place for the next year.

The closing date for the Kenilworth Halifax branch has been announced, with Nationwide also due to reduce its opening hours to two days a week.

More trains have been announced for Kenilworth Railway Station, but the full timetable is yet to resume.

The mass vaccination site at NAEC Stoneleigh has closed after delivering 160,000 doses since opening.

Community news

The Eco Fayre returned in person for 2021, and details of the annual Christmas lights switch on event have also been announced.

Kenilworth Lions hosted its first 'Support the Charities' day to temporarily replace the annual grand show which had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

The Kenilworth Half Marathon returned for 2021, with 582 runners completing the course.

Kenilworth 4th scouts have returned to camping for the first time since before the pandemic.

Sport

Kenilworth Wardens have started their first Coventry Alliance Division One season with two wins and a draw from their opening four matches.

Whilst Kenilworth Sporting have turned around their slow start to the season and now sit fifth in Midland Football League Division Two.

Kenilworth Rugby Club have also played their first competitive matches since early 2020.

Kenilworth Wardens Cricket Club have secured promotion back to the Birmingham Premier League Division One.

A member of Kenilworth runners completed a 235-miles six-day ultra marathon.

Kenilworth Cricket Club under nines beat Bablake to lift the league championship trophy.
