More trains will stop at Kenilworth Railway Station from today as operators West Midlands Railway announced a move away from the reduced two-hour timetable.

However, the former hourly service along the Nuneaton to Leamington Spa line is still yet to resume fully with only eight extra trains running on weekdays.

Whilst an extra 10 services will be scheduled for Saturdays.

WMR has blamed staff shortages for the reduced Kenilworth service, saying it takes 12 months to train new drivers.

As such a reduced timetable has been running since the station reopened in April.

MP for Kenilworth and Southam Jeremy Wright said: "I welcome this progress towards a resumption of the pre-Covid service through Kenilworth station, following extensive discussions with West Midlands Railway.

"I look forward to a full resumption of that service and improvements to it, so Kenilworth can reach its full potential to take my constituents reliably where they want to go and bring more visitors to the town."

The ticketing office is also currently being run by temporary staff after previous tenant Tony Freakley chose not to renew his contract with WMR.

WMR has thanked customers for their "patience and understanding" over the past few months, and said they are committed to reinstating a full service.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: "We are working hard to catch up our training programmes and remain committed to restoring the full hourly service on this route as soon as possible."
