The Mayor of Kenilworth is set to complete a fundraising walk this September in aid of her two mayoral charities.

Cllr Sam Louden-Cooke will complete a 25km course from Kenilworth to Leamington next month, raising money for Warwickshire Pride and Compassionate Kenilworth.

2022 will be the fourth consecutive year she has completed such a challenge, and she has already raised over £2,000 for various causes since 2019.

Weather-permitting, Cllr Louden-Cooke will don her chains and set off from Kenilworth Common on Saturday, September 4. She will make her way through the town, to the castle where she will do a loop of the grounds, and off towards Warwick, walking along the Grand Union Canal and heading towards Leamington.

Her first 'official' end point is the entrance to Jephson Gardens but once she reaches it she will decide how much further she can go.

"I will start walking towards home and follow the number 11 bus route back and then if I break I can just catch the bus back!" Cllr Louden-Cooke told Nub News.

In previous years she has raised money for Mind, Anthony Nolan and spinal cord injury charity BackUp Trust.

But the money raised this September will go into the mayoral charity fund and be split between her two nominated causes.

"The two charities do such really important work for the community. I want to support them, because they support the communities," she added.

"Any support people can give me is greatly appreciated!"

As well as meeting the Mayors of Warwick and Leamington for some of the route, Cllr Louden-Cooke is being joined by Morrisons' Community Champion Alexandra Pearson, and is also asking for local people to join her for sections of the walk if they feel like getting their steps in early.

She said: "People can join me for as much or as little as they want to.

"I have made a Facebook event where I will post really specific details of the route.

"Dogs are also very much encouraged! All the four-legged friends are very welcome and I will need their energy and cuteness for encouragement."

For those unable to participate on the day, they can donate by following this link.

And with the challenge just a few weeks away, Cllr Louden-Cooke said it was mixed feelings ahead of the day.

"Normally with these I feel fine until the few days beforehand and then suddenly think 'what have I signed up to'," she said.

"But like most challenges after the first ten minutes the nerves go and it is just a case of going for it!"
