The latest update on Kenilworth's two new leisure centres has been released by the town council.
Presented at the last Kenilworth Town Council meeting, a report showed the extent of the most recent archaeological discoveries at Abbey Fields.
AR Demolition had already found the remains of a medieval wall thought to be part of a water mill, as well the foundations of a 'high status' building.
Now Warwick District Council has revealed much more extensive remains under the former swimming pool.
Historic England has requested the archaeologists continue to excavate the areas and uncover as much of the archaeology as possible.
And once the full extent of the findings is known, WDC is still hoping to hold a public information day at the town centre site.
"The project team recognise the sensitivity of Abbey Fields in terms of the scheduled monument status, the wildlife, and the value of the area itself to local residents," the report said.
"This is constantly being communicated to the contractors and will be throughout the duration of the project."
The report said the former swimming pool has now been completely demolished, aside from the old plant room.
Contractor Kier is supposed to begin work on site in April, but councillors said they were unsure how much more the project would be delayed.
Speaking at the last KTC meeting, Cllr Richard Dickson said: "Bearing in mind the archaeological discoveries in Abbey Fields, it would be useful to know from district council staff, both what impact that is having on costs but actually more important in the schedule of things.
"My understanding is that the plan had been that the new pools would have been open by November 2024. But I guess with every discovery that takes place, the risk of that deadline being met comes under more pressure.
"It would be really useful to know what timeline they are working to."
Castle Farm
Work out Castle Farm also continues to progress with completion still on track for November 2023.
The steel frame is completely in place with the concrete flooring on the upper level all in place.
Work continues on the building's roof and power is expected to be turned on in April.
The new car park and extension is progressing and is now prepared for tarmacking.
Residents can book slots to 'go behind the hoardings' and see the work at Castle Farm - make a booking here.
The report added: "Due to the closure of the Gauntlet Public House [now reopened], the petanque groups have been forced to relocate.
"They are now playing at Kenilworth Sporting, Gypsy Lane."
