Man arrested after tools stolen from University of Warwick turn up at car boot sale

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after thousands of pounds worth of stolen power tools were found at a car boot sale in Staffordshire.

The tools were stolen overnight between Wednesday July 6 and Thursday July 7 from a compound at the University of Warwick.

The Coventry man was arrested after Staffordshire Police reported the missing items at the sale in Shareshill on Saturday (July 9) morning.

He was first arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and then on suspicion of burglary.

Warwickshire Police is still asking for anybody with information to come forward.

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of burgling a compound at University of Warwick.

"Thousands of pounds worth of power tools were stolen in the incident that occurred some time between 5pm on Wednesday (6 July) and 5.30am yesterday (Thursday 7 July).

"The 48-year-old man from Coventry was arrested after officers from Staffordshire Police reported finding the items being sold at a car boot sale in Shareshill, Staffordshire yesterday morning.

"He was initially arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods before later being arrested on suspicion of burglary.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 45 of 7 July 2022. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 08005 555 111."
