'Legal issues' delaying construction of new roundabout on busy Kenilworth road
"Legal issues" have been behind delays for a new roundabout on Glasshouse Lane which is now not expected to be built until 2025.
A new roundabout will be built on the busy road at the entrance of the new Stoneleigh View housing estate.
The new junction, which will also include the entrance to Stansfield Grove, was expected to be built this year, but has repeatedly been put back.
A recent report to Kenilworth Town Council said it has been put back again.
"Cllrs Leventhal, Kennedy and WCC Cllr Tracey Drew met again on 14 November with Alison Kennedy & Graham Hemmings (WCC) re designs and feasibility for Stansfield Grove roundabout and surrounding area," the report said.
"It is now anticipated that the work on the Stansfield Grove roundabout is unlikely to begin before the end of the year because of the need to resolve some legal issues.
"The final design, and whether this includes the extension of the pedestrian / cycleway on the west side of Glasshouse Lane northwards from Stansfield Grove to the signalised crossing, has yet to be confirmed."
Warwickshire County Council (WCC) previously confirmed to Nub News that the four-arm roundabout on Glasshouse Lane will take at least four months to build.
A report to a previous town council meeting had set the new deadline as May 2025.
The roundabout was due to be built before the new homeowners moved in last year, but Warwick District Council granted permission for the works to be pushed back.
The delay was blamed on road safety works around the new Kenilworth School taking longer than expected.
Now, the first 100 homeowners will now access their houses through the current temporary access road built for the show homes.
The roundabout should then be built in time for the 100th house being occupied.
In 2021 the district council announced it would be investing £60 million to help build the 620 homes in a joint project with Countryside Partnerships - which is part of Vistry Group.
The Stoneleigh View development will see 310 houses built for rent or shared ownership through the council's HomeChoice Scheme, or for private rental through Milverton Homes - the council's housing company.
The remaining 310 properties will be sold privately under the Linden Homes and Bovis Homes brands.
So far 33 houses have been finished, with the district council recently taking ownership of its homes at the site.
