MP for Kenilworth and Southam Jeremy Wright has been knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

The former attorney general, who called on Boris Johnson to resign this week, is one of six current MPs to be honoured in the Platinum Jubilee list.

Mr Wright was given the title for his political and public service including his work "on the thorny legal issues in the Brexit negotiations".

The Conservative MP, who first became Kenilworth's representative in 2005, said he felt "hugely privileged and grateful" at the announcement.

"The work in government for which I am being recognised was made possible by the effort and ingenuity of many colleagues in the departments in which I worked as a minister, as well as by the confidence of the constituents I have had the honour of representing for the last 17 years," he said.

"I want to thank them all.

"I also want to thank my family, staff, friends and many others, without whose love and support I could not have done any of it."

Mr Wright served as the attorney general between 2014 and 2018, and as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport between 2018 and 2019.

Earlier this week he said the PM must resign due to the "real and lasting damage" the partygate affair had caused to the government's reputation.
