Kenilworth's Iceland is officially closed after nearly four decades in the town.

The discount chain announced earlier this year it would be closing its Warwick Road store, and it shut for the final time on Saturday (September 5).

A petition was launched by members of the community to try and save it, but it was not successful.

Now the Warwick Road unit is on the market with property agent EHB Reeves, with a new lease now available.

Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Alison Insley visited the shop on Saturday to thank the staff for their work.

She said in a post on social media: "Iceland has been in this location since 1989, when the company bought out Bejams, (frozen food retailer).

"All staff have been offered suitable positions at alternative locations, or taken the opportunity to change direction.

"It was good to talk to the staff this morning before they opened, they were in high 'spirits', and preparing for closure.

"The manager Dorianne has been at this store for 17 years, while Carl has completed nearly 20 years, with most of the staff being long term employees.

"I want to thank all the staff for everything they have provided, day in, day out and carried out their duties with pride."
