Kenilworth will "show its colours" for the Commonwealth Games this summer as the council looks to decorate the town centre.

Decorations, which will be put up in time for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, will stay in place into July and August as the games come to Birmingham.

And whilst Kenilworth will not host any events, unlike neighbours Warwick and Leamington Spa, the town is hoping to host the baton relay as it did for the Olympics in 2012.

"Provision will be made for Kenilworth, but the major factors are of course Warwick and Leamington," said Cllr Michael Coker at January's Kenilworth Town Council meeting.

"We may have the baton, that hasn't been decided yet, but hopefully we will see it come through here. If we do, obviously we want to be properly ready for that."

The decorations, which will be financed by the town council and Warwick District Council, should be ready in time for the jubilee at the start of June and will remain in place for the summer.

The council is set to decide in the coming weeks how it will actually decorate the town, before submitting a full bill to its finance committee.

"We want a proper plan so we can really show our colours as it will also fit in ideally for the Queen's jubilee," added Cllr Coker.

"Hopefully we can get them up in time for the jubilee, and in readiness for the Commonwealth Games."

Plans for the games were announced at the same meeting as councillors revealed that a new 'parklet' would be built on Station Road.
