Students at Kenilworth School are calling on locals to donate plant pots and house plants in a bid to make the new site more eco-friendly.

The school's Eco Committee - which is run by a small group of Year 13 pupils - has launched the initiative as the first of many this year.

"The plant pots and house plants are being used as one of our first green initiatives this year to help to make the school more eco-friendly," a statement from the committee to Nub News said.

"We have been granted with an amazing facility for us all to use and learn in and by incorporating plants into the environment we hope to make a more positive learning space whilst also carbon offsetting."

The students say they aim to raising awareness over the green issues the country and the rest of the world are facing.

The group wants to educate other pupils on what they can do to support the fight against climate change, whilst also trying to make changes in the school itself..

They are planning on holding an Earth Day event in April next year, and you can keep up to date with their work on the Facebook page.

"It would be great if people are able to drop the plants off to the school site on Glasshouse lane to main reception labelled for The Eco Committee or if there is a student you know in the school if they could take them to the Careers/ UCAS Hub in D1," the statement added.

"This initiative is important to us as a committee to try and make a difference in the school.

"It will help to make the space greener itself.

"We hope to fill the school full of plants, we have had quite a few donated by parents already but it would be great to see some more soon, we have rivalries between the school departments of who can get the best plants so it would be great if the community of Kenilworth could come together and help us to achieve this aim."
