The head teacher at Kenilworth School and Sixth Form has congratulated GCSE students collecting their "simply excellent" results today (August 25).

The school has announced that 87 per cent of pupils achieved grade 9 to 4 passes and 72 per cent achieved strong passes of grades 9 to 5.

And an "incredible" quarter of grades were at levels 7 to 9.

"I would like to extend my congratulations to all of our Year 11 students on achieving a superb set of GCSE results which have surpassed all previous years," head teacher Hayden Abbott said.

"Many individual students achieved excellent results and better than expected despite personal challenges.

"The results of all are simply excellent and reflect the hard work and resilience, particularly over the last two years of disruptions due to the pandemic.

"I would like to thank all staff who have worked well with our students and have supported them every step of the way."

The school announced last week that 17 per cent of A-Level grades received were at A* level with ten students achieving between three and five straight A* grades for all their subjects.

Across this year's GCSEs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the pass rate has fallen compared to 2021, but remains higher than 2019.
