Kenilworth road closed so infected tree can be cut down

Abbey Hill in Kenilworth will be closed today (August 27) to allow for a Beech Tree to be safely removed.

Warwickshire County Council said in a statement: "We will be closing Abbey Hill Kenilworth to allow the safe removal of a diseased tree with immediate affect.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will open the road as soon as possible."

Kenilworth Town Council updated locals last week to say the tree would be felled.

The town council's update said the works were "due to a rapid decline noted in its vigour and the presence of Giant Polypore fungus".

"On the basis the tree will not recover, it will be removed for safety reasons," the update explained.
