Kenilworth businesses have joined forces in an unusual appeal to collect 1,000 cans of custard from around the world.

Morning Sunshine Coffee, Kraken Signs, Kenilworth Books, Edmonds Jewellers and The Station House have launched the 'Kenilworth Custard Corner Can Collection'.

The initiative celebrates the brightly coloured section of Station Road which has become known locally as "Custard Corner" since it was unveiled last year.

Organisers are asking residents to donate cans of custard, with prizes available for those which have travelled the furthest.

Every can collected will ultimately be put towards a good cause.

"When the council painted a big yellow square on Station Road, Kenilworth couldn't decide whether it was the best thing to happen to the town or a very bright cry for help," organisers said.

"Either way, the name 'Custard Corner' stuck, and it's become a bit of a local legend.

"It's being repainted soon, so we're giving it the send-off it deserves."

Residents can donate any brand or size of custard, but each can should include a postmark, label or note showing where it came from.

Cans can be handed in at Morning Sunshine Coffee, The Station House, Kenilworth Books or Edmonds Jewellers.

People can also ask friends and relatives living further afield to take part, post a can to one of the participating businesses or arrange an online supermarket delivery.

Gift vouchers will be awarded for the cans which travel the greatest distance, with organisers set to publish regular updates on the total collected and the furthest donation received.

The collection will close on Tuesday 1 December.

A special Custard and Pie Day will then be held at Custard Corner, outside The Station House, on Sunday 6 December.

Mince pies and apple pies will be served with custard in return for donations, with the money raised going to a good cause.

"Let's fill Custard Corner," the collection organisers added.

Residents are also encouraged to share photographs of their donated cans and reveal where their custard has travelled from.

Custard Corner was painted into 2025 and hit national headlines as well as a feature on Have I Got News For You. It has since had its own Google Maps entry created and is set to be repainted soon.

Station Road was originally shut off during the pandemic, with the move eventually made permanent.
